Can you read my mind?

So, I have good news, and I have bad news. The good news is that the boy and I went to The Killers' concert on Saturday night. The bad news is, well, there is no bad news from my vantage point. Except that we hoped, in vain, to run into Mindi, with whom we shared Depeche Mode with just a few weeks prior at the same venue, and whom I also suspected may have brought with her my aunt Joellen (who doesn’t have a mom haircut) and my uncle Jared (who still has braces). Because that girl knows how to party. But we didn’t see anyone of the sort.

But let’s be honest, I was pretty focused on Brandon and the boys.

I was just a smidge nervous going into the concert, because I have seen them before. We (The Killers and I) had a lot to lose. This time around, it was pretty clear that their tour had a much larger budget than before, and I worried that it would cheapen the experience or that things would be too over-processed and Mark would think I was crazy for loving them so.

Because you know like when you have a favorite sandwich place that not many people know about and you tell your friend about it for months? And you wax poetic at the drop of a hat on how the bread is so soft, the mustard is so spicy, the atmosphere is so delightful, the Coke is so fizzy, the tomatoes are so perfectly ripe, and so on and so forth? But then you finally take your friend to the sandwich shop and everything is stale and the place is dusty and the service is horrendous and you find yourself apologizing for the place and criticizing every little thing about it so your friend knows you know that this isn’t in fact the life-changing sandwich experience you promised and also so you can assure them that it’s usually so much better than this? And that they should just trust you because seriously…your place is just having an off day?

Well that didn’t happen. The Killers haven’t lost their magic. If anything, they’ve found their stride in a big way. I can hardly wait to see them again. Sorry you couldn’t make it…for real. But here’s what they played, if you want to crank it and close your eyes (thanks to No Biggie for posting the song order):

...and just for the heck of it, a video for the one song I wished so hard they would play, but didn't:

Glad you guys made it to the concert. I caught them in Denver last January, and would totally have gone last weekend if I wasn't so mind-numbingly poor.
