a word about bridal fairs.

in my humble opinion, bridal fairs are only useful for people in the "i plan to get engaged this year" phase of life.

might be that i'm just a little eager (probably), or too decisive (probably not), but by the time the bridal fairs rolled around in january, my being there was a tad useless.

"hi there! looking for a photographer?" no.
"heya, have you found a venue yet?" yes.
"looking for that perfect gown?" found it before i had the ring on my hand.
"looking for a cake?" nope.

in fact, the only vendor i hadn't locked in by the time i went to the bridal show was my florist, but i had already chosen her, even though she didn't know it yet.

so i went looking for basically ideas on details.

what i got was about a thousand emails from overeager wedding planners, photographers, dj's, you name it, all vying for my attention. well, all including me on their mail merge pitches is more like it. haven't opened a single one of their messages.

not too useful for either party.

but i'm not complaining! hey, feeling ahead of the game was encouraging!

and in case you were wondering, my florist is blossom sweet, and i can hardly wait to see my flowers! melissa does such beautiful things.

I'd like to take a moment

to point out that in a very close race, Two Thousand Ten beat out Twenty Ten in the latest skinny poll.

Looks like we're all going to speaking a little more properly.

Also, looks like my way won.

How is your 2010 so far? We're a little over two weeks in, and I'm feeling good.

And your resolutions? I've started peeling off a little weight on my South Beach foray, and every time I think about my upcoming honeymoon cruise to Mexico, all I want to do is never eat sugar again. So this helps.

For those of you interested in how I liked it, I am thoroughly enjoying it. Truly. It's like a little game to identify and refrain from hidden sugars, and Mark is doing it in solidarity, which helps a lot. So far I'm 8 pounds lighter and I really do believe that this is something I can, and will, keep up for the long term. I recommend it.

And if you have done it, send over some recipes! Always looking for new ideas to spice up my routine.

I know you are, but what am I?

You know how some people assume that because they are a certain way, that you are, too?

On Friday, I was at the bank getting $20. I had to go inside because I didn’t want a $20 bill. I wanted specific change. Anyway, the teller said,

“You get Monday off, right?”

To which I replied, “no, I don’t work at a bank.”

Here's to all my fellow I-work-on-MLK-day friends.

Today I was just wondering…

Do people really still listen to ska music? Apparently Reel Big Fish is coming to SLC this weekend. I totally forgot about ska music, but I totally remember why.

I forgot about it because I think that ska is the most annoying musical genre on earth (that I’ve heard so far).

More annoying than poorly-done Christmas music.

Anyone with me? Anyone LOVE ska? Tell me why I’m wrong.

What do you have to say for yourself

now that it's 2010?

First, let's clear just one little thing up right now. Is it:

Twenty Ten
or
Two Thousand Ten
?

Because I kind of like Two Thousand Ten. Twenty Ten sounds like a Ray Bradbury novel (not that there's anything wrong with that), not a year. Well, a novel about a year. In the very distant future.

Please visit the poll. Weigh in on this meaty matter.

In other news, I am excited/scared/relieved/anxious/thrilled, because Two Thousand Ten is going to be somewhat of a monumental year for this girl. I'm speaking of marriage, of course, to one special fiance of mine.

(A note to other fiances - you are just not that special to me. And I won't be marrying you. I'll just be marrying one special fiance of mine. And you know who you are and I hope you really do like the flowers I've picked out.)

In other news, and perhaps consequently, I am on the South Beach Diet. Have you tried this? I love it a little. Day 5 and I'm perfectly at ease.

Additionally, I shot a gun for the first time on New Year's Day. It was "a freakin' 12 gauge, what do you think?!"

And what news do you have? It's been so long since we talked.
