jk.

i know my dear domestic becky put a lot of time into coming up with those signature dessert ideas, but today i found this wikihow article via my igoogle page:

how to bake a cake in a mug

that’s right. i saw something about this on someone’s facebook status and i didn’t really buy it, to be honest. but lo and behold, it is a real thing. if it’s on wikipedia, it’s real, y’all. and i might try it.
you do it in the microwave, people. THE MICROWAVE!

nathan even said, “and you could make it for people. just get a lot of mugs.”

jackpot!

warning:

***this post may or may not contain strong opinions. the city of provo may tar and feather me for voicing these feelings. read at your own risk. if i were really skinny enterprises not responsible for any crying/hurt feelings that may result from reading this post.***

today i made the mistake of leaving the house. i'll be more succinct: i made the mistake of driving within a 2 mile radius of edwards stadium at byu. which by the way is basically impossible not to do if you're trying to get anywhere that matters in utah valley.

if you live in provo/orem, you know exactly what i'm talking about. during the fall on saturdays, you must remain a prisoner in your own home if you wish to escape the byu football fans and the subsequent concentration of redonkulously terrible utah drivers.

they are rabid. they will kill you.

i could not care less about byu football if my heart were surgically removed.

mind you, i respect byu. being mormon my whole life and now living in utah for the past 2 1/2 years, i run into quite a few byu students and graduates. i have to say, i tolerate the majority of them quite well, and am actually rather fond of quite a few of them (most of my current coworkers as well as lots of my friends and even a few relatives). all my byu friends: i like you. i'll keep you.

but byu sports, you and i will never be friends. and you avid byu fans - probably don't bring up football. if you keep this rule, we should be fine.

well, all right.

first of all, did you know that 'all right' is ALWAYS two words and that under no circumstances is it correct to use 'alright' ever ever ever?

you know now.

second of all, i thought i'd tell you all what i think about barack obama. i bet my opinion is the first you've seen all day!!! yep, i have lots of original thoughts.

when brian williams told me that obama had won, and by a landslide at that, it was an emotional moment for me. i couldn't put my finger on what it was. i mean there is the obvious historical significance and the strides our country has made that the election has made evident and the fact that these times are so freakin depressing we'll all pretty much cry at the drop of a hat. but as i've talked to some people and listened to some npr and read some good blogs, these are some impressions:

1. the sheer number of votes obama received makes me satisfied that he is indeed what the country wants. in the past two elections, i never really felt like bush "won" as much as gore and kerry had just lost. if that makes any sense. no real majority ever really backed bush the way they backed obama yesterday.

2. obama's victory shows america's preference of hope over fear. i find that quite inspiring.

3. obama has a huge task to live up to all the hope we've placed in him.

4. let's back this guy up. shark bait referenced this bob lonsberry (who i've never heard of - is that bad?) quote and i agree:
Those who didn't vote for Barack Obama must set a higher standard of civility and citizenship than those who didn't vote for George W. Bush. In defeat, there must still be nobility. The last eight years have taught us what happens when you set out to destroy a presidency for political gain. You help your candidate, but you hurt your country. That pattern must not be followed with this new president. America must treat Barack Obama better than he treated George W. Bush.

did anyone else get the warm fuzzies?

some things i loved about hsm.

first of all, whenever someone says "hsm," i immediately think "hsn" and then i want to say,

"i don't take you to be the kind of person that buys stuff off of tv."

not that i'm judging. so i hope you don't judge me for watching high school musical 3.

you know, i smiled. i tapped my toe. we shared a few laughs. here's my top 10 list of stand out moments from this fine flick:

10. i'm (still) pleased as punch to no longer be a high school student.
9. zac efron and corbin bleu dancing in a junk yard like janet jackson.
8. you would think that with the money this movie is making, they could have given sharpay a more believable weave...just as a show of good faith.
7. zac efron wearing a bandanna on his head to go to the junk yard. visions of a.d. hot cops dancing thru my head.
6. zac efron and vanessa hudgens dancing in the rain and not kissing.
5. east high school being incredibly easy to break in to.
4. 6 beautiful kids monopolizing every club in the school that gets any exposure.
3. boys in high school reacting to prom the way boys my age react toward the prospect of a steady relationship ("i think it's too late to back out of this" was the line)
2. beautiful snow-capped wasatch mountains.

...and my number one comment about hsm 3:

hoping the whole time that ryan and kelsi would love each other and it never happening. i guess i'll have to get that in "hsm 4: performing all those dance numbers instead of studying made you fail your finals and none of you graduated!" ...fingers crossed!

any other hsm virgins take the plunge with the latest installment? thoughts or impressions?

it's the economy, stupid.

so we're not the most "practical." so we don't want to "save our money." in fact, according to the latest skinny poll, most of us aren't even willing to liquefy our valuables to save ourselves from financial ruin.

good luck with those sugar daddies, everyone. and if you have an extra, why dontcha help a sister out?! send pic and resume to hollylynnsays (at) gmail (dot) com.

just kidding, unless you're not.

slightly disturbed over here.

ok, so i recommended that suzanne vega song (#1 on the playlist) because i thought it was a cute little beat and i just heard it above the sounds of starbucks.

it's totally about domestic violence.

i'm a little disturbed that such a happy sounding song is about such a heavy, scary issue.

so have a safe night. and ladies, hit 'em up style, if needed.

you want it, you got it.

kind of.

in line with the results of the latest skinny poll, i turned off the auto-start on my blog music player. see? i listen!

but there’s one thing. i’m really self-righteous about my music. i’m like a californian. (love you long time, cali readers but you know it’s true.) but instead of prancing about proclaiming how much california is better than well, anywhere else, i parade about evangelizing my music. and let’s be honest, i get compliments about my music pretty regularly so…we’re gonna do something about it.

i’m going to tell you about songs i love now and again and make them the #1 spot on my little playlist to the right. and then i’m going to want your comments.

i would do song of the day but that’s waaaay too much commitment.

i would do song of the week but that’s a little too lazy.

so, stay tuned. i’m mulling it over and taking suggestions.

good news!

good news, everyone. if you miss the last half of gossip girl because your friends guilt you into going to fhe, you can totally catch it again on sunday afternoon.

and then you can stick around for one tree hill...if the home teachers don't come over. or even if they do, if they like one tree hill.

blair and chuck - i can hardly wait for the next installment. be good to me...be good to me...if your adorable coordinating citrus-colored jackets are any indication, tonight just might be tv nirvana.

safety lid?

the other day while going through my purse, i found that the entire travel-sized bottle of aleve that i keep with me just in case had spilled, blue pills littering my bag like jimmies on a cupcake.

kind of funny that a bottle with a cap that's supposed to outsmart children, in the name of safety, can jiggle loose just bouncing around in my purse.

in case you were wondering...

don't speed in highland. don't speed even if you're going with the flow of traffic, don't speed if you're on your way to the hospital, don't speed because you think you won't get caught.

because you will get pulled over.

and die.

errr, get an 82 dollar ticket if you're cited for going 5 over the speed limit. look, just don't go it. ok?* the scientists invented cruise control for a reason.

looks like a lotta ya's were prancing around in the same ignorant bliss i was until a couple weeks ago, give the results of the last skinny poll.

well, now you know.

and remember, dear ones: people first, then money. then things...then...jackets (thanks kristin wiig. that still makes me giggle, even if i did get a speeding ticket)

*special prize if you can name the movie monologue this post is loosely based on.

...horrifying, but very european.

i'm sure by now you know that paris hilton, although not technically running for president, has become the true voice of reason in this campaign.

today newsweek counted down the top seven reasons that paris should be president. from the article:

1. The White House would become the Pink House and the "men on her staff would be cool with it—they'd be shirtless Chippendale types, with names like Leon."

2. Paris-ified first mansion. "She'd have foam parties in the Oval Office for the White House staff and old girlfriends from boarding school."

3. Red-carpet press conferences. "She would answer all questions while walking and posing for a wall of photographers, and they'd be yelling out, 'Paris, look here! Paris, what about rumors of a trade embargo with North Korea!?' "

4.Other questions would also be allowed. "The first half of every conference would be about what she's wearing. Paris would realize that as president she would have to tone it down a little. She'd lean toward Prada."

5. VP Rihanna is waaay effective at solving conflict. "What would happen is, Rihanna would step off the plane in fishnet stockings, music would blare, and whole countries would melt at the sight of her."

6. Scrap Camp David - Adopt LA. "It would be like Bush at the Crawford Ranch. She would be in L.A. more than she would in Washington, D.C."

7. Paris makes it fun. "She would replace the cabins at Camp David with cabanas—and topless would be optional for all world leaders, which would be horrifying but very European."

drumroll, please...

the results are in. the poll turned out to be a real nail-biter and i thank everyone for voting (even though in case you couldn't tell, i was REALLY pulling for the flesh-colored beard workshops. oh well.)

all in all, we had 18 valiant souls do their civic blogosphere duty. again, the choices were:

1. offer the troops workshops on growing your own flesh-colored beard (4 votes)
2. petition the us gov't to make the "heidiwood" line standard issue military garb (3 votes)
3. solemnly swear in the presence of all available us war personnel to never make another music video. ever. (10 votes)
4. reenact past serious conversations, mostly staring blankly at each other and shaking their heads "no" ever so slightly. (4 votes)

some of y'all voted twice. good. you heeded my instruction to vote early and often.

so, much like a 20-something guy in the dating pool, i have zero follow through and i won't be doing anything with these data. but i think it's been excellent food for thought and i really think that even though many of you appear to feel passionately about speidi retiring from the music video business, i think you probably check you tube compulsively for their next creation. i know i do.

d-do you got a first aid kit handy?

i love it when urban music artists spell words when they're "singing." in any other genre of music, the singer would just you know, sing the word. they can do this because in other genres it is perfectly acceptable for a syllable to take up more than one beat. but in a hip-hop tune, that's strictly prohibited.

typically, this just ends up being a good thing though, because it proves that rap artists can spell. the best is danity kane:

can you fix my h-e-a-r-t? cuz it's d-a-m-a-g-e-d.

other more sopistocated peeps spell longer words. like webbie:

i-n-d-e-p-e-n-d-e-n-t do you know what that means?

you know, webbie? i'm not sure that many people listening to your song do know what it means. i for one couldn't even figure out what he was saying the first time i heard the song. i deduced he was talking about independence by using context clues (she got her own house, she got her own car...)

but some artists in a valiant attempt to appear literate fail. and they fail big. like homeboy collaborating with fergie on her solo album. not even sure who it is. but he struggles with spelling:

t, to the a, to the s-t-e-y, girl, you TASTY.

it is tasty, right? tastey? tasty? thanks, spellcheck!

still time to make a difference!

dear blog besties and creepy stalkers,

only one more day to vote! this is a significant poll and i will be analyzing it and building several charts and graphs based on the data. your sacrifice of taking 5 seconds to vote on speidi's contribution will bless the lives of millions...or just stroke my ego. and you know what? those are both good reasons to give a little bit, give a little bit of your love to me. right now the election might appear over, but there is still time for spencer's flesh-colored beard workshops to take the cake.

think about it, people. we want the poll to clearly depict the demands of the public.

THANKS!
hollylynn

vote early and often.

dear reader,

look up. up a little more...there you go. it's a poll! and i want you to tell me whatcha think. i think these are four good ways that speidi (thanks kathleen) can support the troops. let me know what your fav is.

i'm also interested in other acts of service that you think would be appropriate. leave a comment on this post with your grand (pg-rated) idea.

xoxo

wonder what mccain thinks of all this.

did you know that heidi and spencer are planning a trip to iraq to ho themselves out in hopes of positive press i mean support the troops and that meghan mccain, john mccain's daughter, is helping them organize it??

is anyone else having some serious synaptic misfirings over all this?

please share.

oh 8, oh 8, oh 8.

the world plans on celebrating my dad's birthday with the opening of the beijing olympics. joel mchale reports that nbc (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the sheinhart wig corporation, under ge's trivection oven division...just kidding...if you're not laughing then you really need to start watching the 30 rock dvds to bone up for season 3) will air 3600 hours of olympic footage. this post is seriously so worth your time, btw. i think that i will make a statement by absorbing olympic coverage strictly through the channel of the soup on tv, and its blog. i think it will be a lot more fun this way.

i'm slow...or i had an epiphany in the wee hours of the morning.

so my last post? those music sites are from wired's music blog, the "listening post." there it is, friends. it's a little techie and not very personal, but it's a start.

you can check it out here.

music blog follow-up.

i fell asleep after work so now it's 1:30 am and i'm wired. *sigh*

pretty sure i'm the only one who cares about this, but it's my blog so i will serve my own purposes here. i like to read wired to see what the geeks have been up to, and guess what they've done for me?? compiled some online music sources, many of which use blogging - that's what! that's right...i may find my music blog yet.

here is a link to the article. they recommend these sites that i'll be trying and reporting on, at my own will and pleasure:
imeem
ivideosongs
omnifone
mog <--reminds me of "omg!" which reminds me of kathleen who told me about something she saw the other day - "i have cdo. it's ocd in alphabetical order."
muxtape
rcrd lbl
seeqpod
sellaband/slicethepie
tunecore
youtube <--i can already tell that no one will ever get that interested in this one.

so...has anyone ever used any of these and noticed a blogging element? what did you think?
