coiff talk...or death and all his friends.

i've recently become a huge fan of gwyneth paltrow. well not so much her as much as her hair. in case your subscription to us weekly ran out, it looks like this:

this is particularly inspirational for me since i'm about halfway through the two year awkward phase of growing out my a-line bob (thanks utah. and thanks posh spice.). i think gwyneth totally rocks the shoulder-length hair and i thought to myself, 'you know what? i can do that look.' here's what i have so far:

yes i am rocking a center part this week and yes that is my hills calendar to the left and yes i am wearing my sunglasses inside and yes my sock drawer of my hideously ugly dresser is hanging open (sorry mom). i know the whole start from the crown when you curl trick, but somehow all my curl is still hanging at the ends...this is a big problem and i'm working on it.

in related martin family news, i was inspired by the itunes commercial, and i went out on my lunch break and bought the new coldplay album - viva la vida, or death and all his friends. if you haven't bought it yet, get off your duff and do it. now. if you have been living in a cellar for the past ten or so years, you might wanna have a peek at coldplay's web site. i've always somewhat liked coldplay even though my feelings toward some of their early work is best summed up by randy jackson:

"it was just a'ight for me, dawg."

but this album really covers previously uncharted territory for the band. at the risk of sounding cheesy, i'd have to call it epic. it's that good. i think the reason i like it so much is that this is not chris martin with some vanilla studio band backing him up. coldplay is really a cohesive musical body. kudos.

thank goodness for target tuesday; i got it for $9.99. i was so excited. i marched right to the cd section grinning like a banshee (do they grin?), ignoring the seven sales associates in red polos asking me if i was finding everything i needed in my five second jaunt through electronics, grabbed the cd, and carried it in both hands directly to the register, placing it on the black scrolly thing with great care. the checker, sweet boy he was, looked down and said, "what is this?" figuring he had to be being clever or ironic, and just voicing his equal jazzedness for the album's release, i said, "i know, right?!" he wasn't joking. "this cd!" he continued. "the guest right before you bought it, too. is it about the civil war or something?" the cover looks like this:

that's a french flag. so american civil war...yes! hats off to you, target checkout boy! i guess we all have our talents.
